The President and Chief Executive Officer of Global Scholarship Trust who also doubled as the Africa Regional Director, Academy for International Science and Research, United Kingdom, Dr. Adeniyi John has urged the Government at different levels to redesign the Nation’s education curriculum to meet with the 21st century requirements. He made the call in Lagos during the first National Summit of the Youth Advancement Initiative(YAI).
Dr. Adeniyi stated that ‘Science Technology
Engineering Mathematics and Medicine ‘, ‘STEMM’ education should be introduced into the Nigerian education curriculum; “It is the practical approach to check the rate of unemployment and underemployment in Nigeria” he emphasised.
He defined STEMM Education as a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines: Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEMM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications.
Speaking further, he outlined the benefits of STEMM Education as the blended learning environment and showing students how the scientific method can be applied to everyday life. “It teaches students computational thinking and focuses on the real world applications of problem solving”, he reiterated.
According to him, the STEMM educational system encompasses critical thinking, innovation and research; Teachings from early childhood using different pictorial representations to reawaken children’s knowledge. He advised the government to redesign the curriculum and change the methodology of teaching in such a way that will accommodate technical education and promote skill acquisition and development.
In an exclusive interview with Citizen NewsNG, Adeniyi encouraged the Nigerian Youths to be creative, innovative, passion-driven despite the Challenges they might encounter.
In appreciation of his efforts on Citizens’ Empowerment and Social intervention, the Youth Advancement Initiative, YAI presented an award of excellence to Dr. Adeniyi John and a host of others.
