The Association of Telephone, Cable TV and Internet Subscribers of Nigeria, [ATCIS] led by its President, Prince ‘Sina Bilesanmi over the weekend embarked on Sensitisation and awareness exercise across the Six Geopolitical Zones in the country to educate GSM/Mobile Telephone Subscribers who have successfully linked their Subscriber Identification Module, SIM with National Identification Number[NIN] Database.
While speaking with Citizen NewsNG, Bilesanmi stressed the need for every Nigerian to keep safe and protect his/her NIN-Linked SIMs against any form of theft or loss which could be used to perpetrate criminal acts if stolen.
“Once you have successfully linked your SIM Cards with the National Identification Number[NIN] Database, you are now naked before the Security Agencies. Protect your SIM Card(s) from any security breach, even more than the way you protect your Bank Verification Number and Personal Identification Number”, Bilesanmi emphasised.
He further stated that if criminal elements get hold of NIN-Linked SIM to commit any form of fraud with it, the subscriber would be held responsible for the offence and the owner risk jail term.
“Please, note that if you misplace, or lose your BVN and PIN, the worst that can happen is for you to lose your funds with the Bank(s). But, if you lose your Telephone handset(s), and SIM card(s), you may end up in Prison unknowingly”,
Bilesanmi advised.
The Association of Telephone and Cable Television Subscribers outlined Precautionary Measures to be taken by GSM Subscribers who have successfully linked their SIMs with the National Identification Number[NIN] Database to include but not limited to GSM/Mobile Telephone Subscribers are advised to Register their SIM Card(s) immediately after Purchase, Nigerian GSM Subscribers are urged to be
