Ikeja Electric Signs Agreement With Community For 24hrs Power Supply
Ikeja Electric has signed a bilateral power agreement with Ikeja Government Residential Area (GRA) to invest in electricity infrastructure in the estate, a development which is expected to guarantees residents 24 hours daily supply of electricity.
With the agreement, Ikeja Electric will provide the residents with electricity supply beyond the existing standard.
In addition, there will also be access to dedicated Customer Care and Technical teams for prompt resolution of queries and technical issues within the estate.
Folake Soetan, Chief Operating Officer at Ikeja Electric said the agreement will take effect from November 1, 2019, which means Ikeja Electric will give residents of Ikeja GRA a minimum of 20 hours daily supply of power sometimes they can get more than 20 hours.
“Before December, Ikorodu, Abule Egba and Akowonjo will also be included in this arrangement,” Soetan told BusinessDay.
Anthony Youdeowei, CEO of Ikeja Electric said we the plan will show to Lagosians and Nigerians at large that the power sector can work if we have the right mix of customers who are willing to pay for the power and a distribution company who has the capacity to deliver.
“We know there is a lot of cynicism in the sector; however we believe when we have a set of customers who are willing to trust by paying a market price then we can make things work,” Youdeowei said.
Chairman of Ikeja GRA Muiz Banire said the journey of negotiations of the contract started almost four years ago with ups and downs, but that the residents remained committed and believed it was achievable.
“This partnership has come to stay and we the residents will play our part to make it work in order to reap the best from this arrangement,” Banire told BusinessDay.
Kennedy Anyiam-Osigwe, Chairman of Power Committee at Ikeja GRA commend Ikeja Electric for their patience to see the process through and assured that the residents will do it best to make sure this arrangement can be a template for other parts of Lagos and Nigeria at large.
