80 Loud cheers for Eda of Moviedom, Chief Lere Paimo

There was loud drumming and singing in the Ogbomoso, Oyo state country home of one of Nigeria’s veteran actors, singer and dancer Chief Lere Paimo (MFR).

The veteran Yoruba actor who has been in the movie circle for over five and a half decades clocked 80 on September 19 and his family members, colleagues and fans threw an open house event where the legendary actor who is popular as Eda-Niniola was celebrated.

A recipient of several awards for his great performances on stage and screen including the award of the national honours of Member of the Federal Republic (MFR), Chief Paimo has been able to cut across both the Yoruba and the English genre of showbiz on a global scale.

Holder of the traditional title of Aare Arobajo of Ogbomoso, Paimo hails from Ogbomoso, Oyo state, in South West, Nigeria. A teacher, actor, singer, radio & television comedian, and seasoned dramatist, Chief Paimo earned the alias Eda Niniola, after a beatific portrayal of one his numerous leading roles.

He trained as a teacher in Ghana after his primary education in Ogbomoso and he has been awarded various certificates of participation in theatre workshops at the university of Ibadan in 1976.

Fascinated and inspired by the outstanding performances of stage and screen legends like Duro Ladipo (M.O.N) and Oyin Adejobi, both of blessed memories, Chief Paimo’s first role on stage was as Chief Bisa, a comedian in the play “Obamoro’ while his major break-through role in a film was playing Soun Ogunlola in the epic feature Ogbori-Elemoso.

With over 400 films and video credits in his pouch, the dynamic and outstanding actors other movie credits include Aiye, Jaiyesinmi, Ogbori-Elemoso, Ipade Ayo, Omo Orukan and Saworoide just to mention a few.
