It was with shock that we received the news of the re-arrest of Omoyele Sowore in the premises of a court this morning, in a gestapo-styled operation by the Department of State Security Service (DSS).
The DSS allegedly invaded the courts with guns and chased out a judge in a supposed democracy.
This is one of the lowest moments of the 4th Republic and I condemn this descent to impunity and tyranny, by a Security service gone rogue, in its strongest terms.
Sowore, who had been granted bail by the courts weeks ago, was finally released yesterday after the Courts compelled the DSS and scolded it for dithering to release him.
I call on President Buhari to immediately call the DSS to order and ask that the agency should henceforth conduct its operations, within the confines of the law.
The rule of law and respect for its sanctity, is what separates us from a “Banana Republic”, we all must do our outmost to ensure it prevails.
It is Sowore today, it can be anybody tomorrow.
Let us protect this democracy and ensure it endures!!
