We the Yoruba criticize our own. Sometimes we go overboard and we hang our own dry. We know some other people shield their own, no matter his or her missteps or infractions. Political tribalism has made it easy for people not to see what is wrong in the actions of their political lords.
I believe in the Yoruba maxim that says; you can eat a rodent with umbilical hernia within the confines of your home. Another advised us to chase the fox away before we admonish the chicken. These aphorisms led me to reach out, to some of my friends in 2019, on the need to re-elect Sanwoolu despite the abysmal performance of APC and other political parties from which it evolved, since 1999. Now, we must put Sanwoolu on notice to deliver.
Lagos is buffeted by strong headwinds. The state is facing the onslaught of migrants from states who have abdicated their responsibilities to their people. It is painful to see how other states are exporting their failures to Lagos. It is condemnable. No state should hide under one Nigeria to overburden another. It is reprehensible and irresponsible.
That done with, Lagos is the fifth largest economy in Africa. Lagos does not maintain an army, Lagos has no navy, no air force. Where is the money? Lagos is an example of a Cryptofascist, racket economy where a people’s destiny are subjected to corporatist interests. These interests is what we must break. Lagos must be allowed to develop the infrastructures befitting a megalopolis. That is the fight those who love Lagos must fight. If you love Lagos, fight for a beautiful Lagos. Lagos must not be the best example of a twenty-first century slum.
