Even as his test results for Coronavirus showed negative, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has continued to discharge his duties, while self-isolating and observing social distancing by deploying technology to hold meetings and discharge other responsibilities, both at home and in the office.
The Vice President’s Spokesman had disclosed that Prof. Osinbajo on Tuesday, went into self-isolation in accordance with NCDC protocols. Before that, news reports had indicated that the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Abba Kyari had tested positive to the disease.
But in response to an inquiry about the Vice President’s COVID-19 status, a source from his office confirmed on Wednesday that indeed a test was conducted on Prof. Osinbajo and his close aides. The results were negative.
Mr Akande, had earlier in a tweet on Tuesday evening said “Osinbajo yesterday at the office conducted his meetings via video conferencing, while observing social distancing. Today, he continues his work from the home office, as he is in self-isolation in accordance with NCDC protocols.”
Mr Akande had also tweeted last week that Prof. Osinbajo, also in his capacity as the chairman of the National Economic Council’s (NEC) Special Committee coordinating all responses by Federal and State authorities, has continued to diligently track the COVID-19 situation across the country.
The Vice President has, at recent public engagements, encouraged Nigerians to continue to adhere strictly to all hygiene advisories in the interest of their health and wellbeing, and had shown a good example by joining other faithful in participating in last Sunday’s online service at the Aso-Villa Chapel, via live streaming. The VP joined the online service from his official residence, while less than ten Chapel officials conducted the online service on ground at the villa.
