Four suspects have been arrested by the police in connection with their alleged involvement in the gruesome murder of an octogenarian, Mrs Cecilia Akpan, in the Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
A source said four suspects had been arrested by the police in connection with the crime.
“As we speak, four suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of the woman,” the source stated.
The late Akpan, who hailed from the Oku-Abak community, was beheaded on Saturday in her farm when she went to harvest cassava.
It was gathered that the principal suspect, who hails from Delta State but lives in the locality, was arrested after he allegedly dumped the head of the deceased in the house once rented by the deceased’s son.
Speaking with our correspondent on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, N’nudam Fredrick, who confirmed the arrest of some suspects, said the command had commenced investigation into the matter.
He gave an assurance that the police would do everything possible to get to the root of the matter.
“Investigation is still ongoing. The police have arrested some suspects in connection with the crime and I cannot specifically tell you the number of people in custody because investigation is still ongoing,” Fredrick stated.
Meanwhile, the last son of the deceased, Samuel Akpan Isong, who spoke with our correspondent in Oku-Abak, expressed shock over the gruesome murder of his mother.
