There has been a 43% increase in the number of COVID-19 cases and a 38% increase in the number of COVID-19 deaths reported in the WHO African Region, since its last situation report on 15 April 2020.
The number of COVID-19 cases in Africa continues to rise significantly as all Member States have been affected, with the exception of Comoros and Lesotho where no official reports of COVID-19 cases have been received to date.
Overall, in the African continent a total of 24, 137 cases and 1, 171 deaths (CFR: 4.9%) have been reported as of 21 April 2020, including 15, 394 cases and 716 deaths in Member States from the WHO African Region and 8, 743 cases and 455 deaths in Member States from the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region.
