The Minister of Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Bello, has revealed strategies adopted by the Administration to fight the pandemic in the city.
(The FCT has recorded 119 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 since the outbreak of the Coronavirus in Nigeria; however, some have responded to treatment and been discharged).
According to the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Media, Abubakar Sani, the strategies include: the ongoing active case search in communities and health facilities, ongoing case investigation and sample collection of suspects including respondence.
Furthermore, he also revealed that the Administration had massively embarked on identification and testing of all contacts of confirmed cases as well as testing of all cases presenting respiratory symptoms irrespective of travel history outside Nigeria or contact with COVID-19 positive case.
Other measures include, rapid response to alerts from emergency operation centre or call centre; ongoing decontamination of homes, offices, public spaces and hotels that have had positive cases; ongoing training of health workers to build more capacity.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Media also revealed that the Administration aggressively embarked on the expansion of diagnostic criteria and centres for testing and treatment.
He also noted that large consignments of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), surgical face masks, infra-red thermometers, hand sanitizers as well as assorted drugs, ventilators and other medical consumables have been supplied to all treatment/isolation centres and hospitals.
