An ex-convict, Lekan Usman, arrested for offences bordering on burglary and stealing, was on Monday sentenced to two years and six months jail term by an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court, presided over Magistrate Modupe Awodele, Usman was reportedly apprehended about 3am on Friday, May 1, at the Oke Ayepe Area of Osogbo, when he illegally entered into the house of one Adebayo Olalekan, where he stole mobile phones and laptops.
While addressing the court, the prosecutor, Razaq Olayiwola, said the accused stole items that included two Tecno phone, one Infinix Hot 8 phone, one Infinix Hot 4 phone, one Itel phone and a laptop, all valued at N161,500.
The prosecutor said after Usman was caught, some angry residents beat him and left him seriously injured.
Usman pleaded guilty to the three counts pressed against him.
Presenting facts of the matter before the court, the prosecutor tendered as exhibits phones and laptop recovered from the accused.
Magistrate Awodele, in her judgment, found the accused guilty and sentenced him to a 30-month jail term for the three counts.
She however gave the accused an option of N15,000 fine for the three counts.
