President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the media industry, particularly Nigeria Union of Journalists and Nigeria Guild of Editors, over the passing of Waheed Bakare, Saturday editor of New Telegraph.
Bakare died on Sunday night after a brief illness.
In a statement on Monday, Buhari said the deceased served the nation passionately with his talent.
In the condolence message released by Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, in Abuja on Monday, Buhari commiserated with the family of the deceased and management of New Telegraph Newspapers.
The president described the editor’s death as a collective loss to the media and the nation and prayed that God would receive the soul of the departed, and comfort all that mourned him.
A funeral service for Bakare held in Ota, Ogun state, earlier on Monday and he was later laid to rest.
