The Adamawa State Government has agreed to ease the lockdown in the state, in line with measures taken by Nigeria’s Federal Government.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, in a broadcast to the state said the decision to ease the restrictions put on movement of persons became necessary because majority of the people depend on daily income.
The Adamawa State Governor stated that with effect from Monday, May 4, 2020, there will be a curfew from the hours of 8pm to 6 am.
“In this regard, Government believes that strict adherence to the protocols and guidelines issued by the World Health Organization and adopted by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) coupled with aggressive contact tracing will greatly enhance the containment plan,” Governor Fintiri said.
The governor encouraged citizens of the state to imbibe all the guidelines of personal hygiene such as frequent washing of hands with soap and running water and where not possible, they should use alcohol based hand sanitizers. The governor highlighted other safety measures like social distancing and the wearing of masks.
“wearing of face masks must be mandatory when going out and in all gatherings, such as markets, shops and commercial transport, as well as adherence to social and physical distancing and avoiding crowds of above fifty people in social, cultural and religious gatherings.”
Governor Fintiri said offices would be open from Monday, May 4, 2020, between 8am and 2pm.
“Consequently, Civil Servants from level 15 and above should report back to Work. For others, the Head of Service will draw up a convenient timetable which workers shall adhere to,” Governor Fintiri said.
The Adamawa State Governor, however, said banks would continue to offer skeletal services and ensure that customers adhere to all measures put in place.
He also announced that inter-States boarders and all schools would remain closed, advising parents to take advantage of the school on radio and television designed to keep the children learning.
