The Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has assured pupils and students in the State that he is not resting on his oars in ensuring that they are back to School in due time. This was disclosed in a Children’s Day Broadcast Message on Lagos Television (LTV), in commemoration of Y2020 Children’s Day Celebration.
In his address, Governor Sanwo-Olu stressed that the safety and well being of students in the State is of great importance, as attendance in School requires a healthy body and sound mind. The Governor assured the children that, he shares in their vision for a very bright future and urged them to up the scale of their academic performance by preparing very well ahead of all examinations and be focused towards a greater future.
The Governor revealed that this year’s celebration which is on a low-key is due to the Covid-19 pandemic which resulted to the immediate closure of schools. He concluded by advising the Children to continually make the State, their parents and teachers proud by studying hard to achieve excellent results.
In the same vein, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo in her message, wishes the Children a joyous celebration, encouraging them that frantic efforts are being made towards fighting the pandemic in order to open schools for the continuation of their academic calendar.
“As soon as we are comfortable with the level of safety that we have in schools, we will do everything we can to make sure that you come back to school” She said.
Adefisayo disclosed that Children are the most valuable assets, representing the future and the hope for tomorrow. She implored parents to safeguard the future of the Children by motivating and providing the necessary essentials for their growth. She commended the efforts of teachers and parents who contribute immensely for their development.
While also conveying the Children Day’s Message, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Abosede Adelaja urged parents to make the day special for their Children by giving them special treats, adding that the ministry had gone round to distribute gift items to students who have been exceptional in academics and co-curricular activities across the Six Educational Districts.
Highlights of the day are special performances by popular saxophonist, BeeJay Sax and distribution of gifts and school materials to students in primary, junior and senior secondary levels.
