A 78-year-old grandmother Sabinah Arannilewa, has been gruesomely killed by persons suspected to be ritualists, in Ikere Ekiti.
The victim was also a widow.
She was washing clothes at her residence on Moshood Road, on 29 May, when she was kidnapped.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), ASP Sunday Abutu confirmed the incident and described it as “unfortunate and mysterious”.
Abutu said investigation had begun into the case by the Criminal Investigation Department.
He added that the corpse of the deceased had been deposited in the morgue of the State Specialist Hospital in Ikere Ekiti.
Concerned local sources, had earlier told newsmen that the ritualists drained Arannilewa’s blood and removed vital organs from her body.
Arannilewa’s son, Eyitope, said his mother was declared missing on Friday, May 29, around 6: 45a.m
He said his mother’s friend first raised the alarm about her disappearance.
A search party tried to trace her. But efforts to find her proved abortive.
By 4p.m the same day, her corpse was found inside a stream.
Her throat was slit and other vital organs removed.
“On that fateful day I got a distress call that my mother was missing.
“It was my mother’s friend, Mrs Ojolo who resides within a short distance from her shop that raised the alarm when she did not see her.
“The matter was immediately reported at the Police station.
“It was not long that information came that her body had been located at a place not far from the home.
“She was slaughtered like a goat and the corpse dumped in a shallow stream, flowing through the back of her home,’’ he said.
