The Executive Secretary, Judicial Service Commission, Mrs. Olubukola Salami has advised Legal Officers in the State Civil Service to ensure that they learn as much as they can during a two-day training programme organised by the State Government in order to improve their knowledge and enhance service delivery.

The Executive Secretary, who gave the advice before the commencement of the training programme with the theme “Understanding the Fundamentals of the Laws and Public Service Rules”, held in Ikeja, explained that the workshop will help the participants to gain an understanding of the law, the Public Service Rules as well as provide a practical approach in applying the law generally.

According to her, participants are expected to gain both theoretical and practical knowledge of the topics that will be taught, which will inculcate in them a deeper understanding and confidence vital for the effective delivery of their duties.

Salami reiterated that the legal profession is a noble one and lawyers as guardians of the law play important roles in the preservation of the justice system but the fulfilment of the role requires a better understanding of the law, thus necessitating the need to educate the legal officers on the fundamentals and principles of law.

In her words, “The brainstorming session during the training will help the participants to effectively discharge their responsibilities and enhance their various abilities to excel in their noble profession. I want you to fully understand the law and speak confidently during trials like the distinguished facilitators who have graciously honoured the invitation to come and educate on different topics”.

She, therefore, urged the participants to be focused, pay rapt attention and make it as interactive as possible, listing some of the topics for the two-day programme to include Legal/Letter Writing and Key Elements/Skills of Communication; Nigeria Labour Laws; Guide to Conducting Trials in Civil Matters; Frontloading of Processes; The Trial Process and Trial Advocacy, among others.
