The deputy vice-chancellor of Anchor University, Lagos, Prof. Johnson Fatokun, who was abducted by unknown gunmen at Kurmi Shinkafa village, Kokona Local Government Area, Nasarawa state, has regained his freedom.
He was released within same State at about 8.00pm following successful negotiations with the kidnappers
Anchor University is a faith-based institution in Ayobo, Lagos, owned by the Deeper Christian Life Ministry.
Fatokun left Lagos on Sunday to drop off his two children, schooling in the North. He was said to be returning on Monday January 18, 2021 when his vehicle was attacked by the gunmen in Nasarawa en route to the airport to return to Lagos.
The university’s Assistant Registrar, Strategy and Communications, Mr. Okesola Sanusi confirmed that Prof. Fatokun was released at about 8pm last night but did not state how or whether it was the security personnel that rescued him.
Sanusi said after contact was established, negotiations with the kidnappers started and afterwards, the deputy vice chancellor was released.
In a terse statement, he said “To the glory of God, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Anchor University, Professor J.O. Fatokun, has been released.”
