The BOSF recognise and respect the freewill of every individual to participate and be a member of political parties and political processes in the country. It is on this note that we did recognise the claim that a former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani Kayode is considering joining the APC. Also, the party’s constitution and ethics welcome any Nigerian to join the party, provided the constitutional processes (that includes joining from ward level) are obeyed and strictly enforced.
It is on record that Chief Fani Kayode has been a vocal and unapologetic foe of the present APC-led federal government. The deliberate use of “foe” is precipitated on his mostly baseless and destructive criticism of the government.
On different occasions, FFK, as he is popularly known, chose to be vulgar and needlessly temperamental in his criticisms of the Buhari administration. For instance, the former aviation minister has called President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, unprinted names in the past in the guise of criticism.
The APC as a party of the people respects the ideals of democracy, which include freedom of speech and responsibile opposition, and is in the business of nation building. This is why the APC welcomes constructive criticisms from genuine and concerned patriots. But we dare say that, from his past antecedents, Chief Fani Kayode has not positioned himself as genuine.
We have seen him waging war on the journalists and the independence of the Fourth Estate, among many other odiferous statements against the APC government.
Nevertheless, it is his choice to join the party and make his contribution.
However, BOSF wish to state that FFK’s return to APC may become a liability to the party as we are of the opinion that he does not have the credibility or lasting, tangible value to bring to the party.
When he was in opposition, we keenly observed his activities, and his derogatory and irresponsible statements on the government.
Here are a few examples of of his statements as featured in some of the national dalies in the past:
“Buhari came to ‘steal, kill and destroy'” – FFK. The Nation
” Osinbajo’s Humiliation is Total’, FFK Mocks Osinbajo
“Buhari speech was a disgrace to humanity” – FFK
“Nigerians should pull down the statue of Tinubu, the slave owner” – FFK
” I will rather die than join APC. I am committed to opposing the APC and those that are in their ranks for the rest of my natural life and I will never join them no matter what!”
Coronavirus: “It is either Buhari is dead or just inhuman” – FFK
We, therefore, ask Femi Fani Kayode to retract his foul and ill-mannered statements and apologise to the party leaders. We also ask him to be cautious of his steps in the APC. Every party has its ideology and principles, and we would suggest that, if he is accepted to the party, FFK should be on probation as he is carefully observed. Hopefully, he might become morally fit to participate in the real affairs of the party.
We also urge the leadership of the party to be wary of discussing sensitive issues related to the party in his presence. He should still be treated as one who might be on a mission to infiltrate the party and on ulterior motive. We sincerelt hope this is not the case.
In conclusion, we beg to disagree with the remark of Kogi State Governor, Gov Yahaya Bello, who acknowledged the return of Chief Femi Fani Kayode as a “sweet welcome”. In contrast, the return is a sour one for us and the APC family.
While FFK is giving the benefit of doubt, he should also be ready to responsibily prove himself as someone capable of being in a group of morally correct and sound individuals who are committed to the task of nation building.
