As concerns continue to rise over the security situation of the country, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation for the State of Osun, Mrs Funke Egbemode, has prescribed a synergy of different security formations as imperative to ensuring the safety of lives and properties of citizens.
Egbemode, during a discussion that centred around the 21st Century Woman, Security and Covid-19 Vaccination, on Silverbird Television, on Thursday, said her prescription was predicated on the extant security architecture of the State of Osun, which has helped the State maintain her peace profile in recent times.
“Osun State is currently in a good place with respect to security. It is work in progress though, but Osun is more secured than people think it actually is. For instance, you don’t find our Commissioners moving around with a retinue of security.
“We’ve had a couple of incidences just this year about abductions in local spaces, but our security operatives were able to quickly retrieve those that were abducted. This is possible because of an existing synergy among our security formations.
“The Amotekun Corps is proving to be a major security breakthrough in the Region because its Corps members are local people, who understand the fabrics of their communities and know where to turn when security breaches occur.
“So, the local intelligence of the Corps plus the strength and experience of the Police has made it increasingly difficult for criminals to find solace in Osun. You cannot want to do crime and live in Osun. If you have criminal intentions, you have to relocate. The security apparatus here is quite on top of its game, and also improving daily.
“All the security agencies work together to ensure that there is peace in the territory. There is no rivalry whatsoever because everyone knows that there is a common goal that is being pursued.
“It is just one United front here. The Police acknowledges that the security of the State is not a one-man show, and the Amotekun Corps understands that its local intelligence doesn’t make it superior in any way. So, it is just one front that we maintain here.
“In Osun, there is no divided house. The Governor is directly involved in security affairs, because one of the major mandates he was entrusted with is the security of lives and properties of citizens. And being the peace-loving and strategic man that he is, there can be no rivalry among the security formation of the State.
“They meet and work together. Any kind of enforcement is done together, including the enforcement of the use of face masks”, Egbemode stated.
