The Managing Director/CEO of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, has affirmed the Authority’s readiness, to partner Geocycle, a subsidiary of LAFARGE Africa Plc, on effective conversion of industrial, agricultural and municipal waste, into cement production.
Odumboni, during a tour of the company’s facility at Ewekoro, Ogun State, noted that the Authority had concluded plans to channel construction and demolition waste to the company, for optimal usage.
He emphasised that the waste management sector in the state was clearly towing the line of achieving zero waste, as recycling industries continue to spring up.
The LAWMA boss said: “If Polymart and ALKEM can emerge, to become recycling companies converting pet bottles to bottles, and EarthCare, converting organic waste into fertilisers; then, it is not impossible for us to work with LAFARGE, and allow them take all our non-recyclable waste that ordinarily goes to the landfill, and turn it into a resource in their facility. By that, we will be left with zero waste in Lagos and Nigeria at large”.
Earlier in his welcome address, the head of Geocycle Nigeria, Mr. Daniel Adedokun, stated that the collaboration would be of a great benefit to both parties, stressing that their watchword lied in creating sustainable solutions to waste management.
In attendance were the Executive Director Finance: Mr. Kunle Adebiyi; Head, Investment Unit, Dr. Essien Nsuabia; Head, Recycling Unit, Mrs. Jirin Okubanjo; President of Lagos Recyclers Association (LAGRA), Dr. Femi Idowu Adegoke, amongst others.
