A video is making the rounds on the photo and video-sharing platform, Instagram that reveals how the suspended EFCC chairman Mr. AbdulRasheed Bawa spends N223M on hotel accommodation for 10 days and by extension generated several reactions among netizens.
It was reported on June 14th, 2023 that the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the indefinite suspension of the office of Bawa as the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.
This follows weighty allegations of abuse of office leveled against Bawa, a 43-year-old who hails from Jega, Kebbi State.
In the viral video on Instagram, a source publicly disclosed to the press that Bawa traveled for a lesser hajj known as Umrah with his wife, children, parents, and other family members about a month ago.
Speaking further, the source said that while Bawa was in Jeddah and Mecca with his family they stayed at the Sheraton hotel which cost about $15k for 10 days per room and Bawa paid for 6 rooms.
In conclusion, it was further revealed that Bawa spent $300,000 which is approximately N223M for hotel accommodations for the 10 days.
The clip shows that while the EFCC is built for accountability and frowned against embezzlement, mismanagement, and other bad conduct that could tarnish the image of the commission, the suspended chairman Bawa keeps doing the worse.
