University student Fatima dies in tragic road accident caused by a speeding soldier.
Immediate fatalities include the tricycle driver and two passengers.
Family calls for investigation and justice for Fatima’s death.
Fatima, a 400-level student of Industrial Chemistry at Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), Katsina, was tragically involved in a road accident along with four others while en route to the Unguwar Dosa area of Kaduna. The incident occurred when a soldier collided with the tricycle she was traveling in.
According to a Twitter post shared on July 9 by Fatima’s brother, @Amaad, a soldier was overspeeding along Rigachikun route when he smashed the tricycle conveying Fatima, three other passengers and a driver.

The Twitter post further revealed that the tricycle driver and two passengers lost their lives instantly as a result of the collision. While Fatima sustained a skull fracture and multiple injuries, she did not succumb to her injuries immediately. Unfortunately, she passed away two hours after the incident.
“Three passengers, including the driver, passed away instantly, while my sister Fatima and the other woman were rushed to the hospital to save their lives,” Amaad disclosed.
“When he (the soldier) realised what had happened, he got out of the car and fled, leaving his car behind. The vehicle is at Rigachikun police station.”
Tragically, the woman who was taken to the hospital along with Fatima also passed away on July 5.
Devastated by his sister’s death, Amaad is calling for an investigation by the Nigerian army and the prosecution of the soldier responsible for Fatima’s demise.
According to FIJ, Onyema Nwachukwu, the army’s public relations officer, stated that he was not aware of the traffic accident and that no report had been filed. He urged anyone with information about the soldier or the vehicle involved in the accident to come forward for appropriate action.
Upon contacting Mohammed Jalige, the police spokesperson in Kaduna State, FIJ was informed that he would provide an update on his findings soon.
