A potential disaster was narrowly avoided when a tanker carrying 45,000 litres of PMS (Premium Motor Spirit) overturned at Ajayi Road in Ogba.
Fortunately, no lives were lost, and there were no reported injuries.
This is contained in a statement issued by Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
Upon reaching the accident site, it was determined that the tanker had tipped over, causing its contents to spill at the specified location.
Further investigation revealed that the incident occurred as the tanker attempted to avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle but ended up veering into a ditch.
The Lagos Response Team (LRT), in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Nigeria Police Force, promptly responded to the scene. Their efforts were focused on crowd control and preventing unauthorised access to the area.
To ensure public safety and environmental awareness, the LRT conducted sensitization and public enlightenment campaigns to educate residents about the potential hazards posed by the incident.
Additionally, vehicular activities in the vicinity were restricted to prevent any secondary incidents, and residents were advised against cooking or engaging in any activities that could ignite fires.
“We are pleased to report that, with the joint efforts of the agencies involved, the overturned tanker loaded with 33,000 litres of PMS has been successfully recovered, and the operation has been concluded.
