The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended Ndubisi George, a suspected leader of a notorious one-chance robbery syndicate.
The arrest was confirmed by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s Public Relations Officer, via his official statement on Monday.
“One chance” robberies, a prevalent form of crime in Nigeria, involve criminals posing as commercial drivers who pick up unsuspecting passengers only to rob them during transit.
Hundeyin revealed that George, aged 49, was in charge of a criminal network operating within Itire, Aguda, Cele, and Surulere areas of Lagos State.
A grey Toyota Camry linked to the syndicate was recovered during the operation, with ongoing efforts to apprehend other members.
According to the statement, George has been arraigned and remanded in prison until 18 March, 2024, for further legal proceedings.
This arrest comes on the heels of a recent crackdown on criminal activities in Lagos.
The statement read, “Operatives of #LagosPoliceNG have arrested one Ndubisi George ‘m’ aged 49, leader of a one-chance robbery syndicate operating within Itire, Aguda, Cele and Surulere.
“One grey Toyota Camry was recovered from him while efforts are on to arrest other members of the syndicate.
“The suspect has been arraigned and remanded to prison till March 18, 2024 for continuation of hearing.”
In January, operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) apprehended a three-man “one chance” gang at Jubilee Bridge in the Abule-Egba area.
The gang members were intercepted while fleeing from the scene of a robbery after alert citizens observed them pushing a victim out of their vehicle.
The series of arrests demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement agencies to curbing crime and ensuring the safety and security of residents in Lagos State.
