In a tribute to one of Nigeria’s most celebrated literary icons and renowned author, Chinua Achebe, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dedicated a major road in the nation’s capital to his memory.
On Saturday, President Tinubu officially inaugurated the M18 road in the Guzape district of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and named it the “Chinua Achebe Expressway.”
The announcement was made by Olusegun Dada, the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Commissions the M18 road infrastructure in Guzape District of Abuja. Names road after Nigerian Novelist and Poet, late Professor Chinua Achebe,” he wrote.
Achebe, who passed away in 2013 at the age of 83, was a celebrated Nigerian novelist, poet, and critic widely regarded as one of the pioneering figures of modern African literature.
His groundbreaking novel “Things Fall Apart,” published in 1958, has been hailed as a seminal work that helped shape the global understanding and appreciation of African literature and culture.
Achebe’s contributions to the literary landscape have earned him the status of one of the “fathers of modern African literature.
In a separate move on Tuesday, President Tinubu named the newly constructed N20 arterial road, stretching from the Northern Parkway to the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX), as the “Wole Soyinka Road.”
