Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Mba, and his wife have been released by their abductors after spending a harrowing day in captivity.
The PUNCH reports that a high-ranking government official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed on Saturday night that the Commissioner and his wife were released earlier that day.
“The kidnapped Commissioner of Youth Development and his wife were freed today. To God be the glory. The state government will issue a statement shortly,” the source added.
SaharaReporters had earlier reported that unknown gunmen on Friday reportedly kidnapped the Commissioner for Youth Development in Anambra State, Agha Mba, and his wife.
It was learnt that one of his aides from Onitsha was also killed during the attack en route to the wedding of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s daughter in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Neither the Anambra State Government nor the Nigeria Police Force has issued an official statement on the incident.
In a similar incident in May, some gunmen attacked Nkwo Ibagwa market in the Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The gunmen injured scores of people and destroyed goods reportedly worth millions of naira.
The hoodlums also burnt at least two commercial buses and two tricycles.
