The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council, Lagos Axis, recently hosted an Inter-Campus Debate and Security Summit at the Lagos State University of Technology (LASUSTEC) in Ikorodu. The event, themed “A Nexus Between Building Blocks of Leadership and Cloud Nine Governance,” brought together government officials, educators, and students to discuss the crucial role of leadership in achieving an idealised form of governance.
Delivering the keynote address, Barr. Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe, Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, emphasised the importance of leadership qualities. He stated, “The building blocks of leadership include vision, integrity, decisiveness, empathy, adaptability, communication, courage, and continuous learning. These are not isolated elements, but interconnected facets that reinforce each other.”
Ogunlewe explored the concept of “Cloud Nine Governance,” describing it as an “idealised, utopian form of government that brings about the highest levels of satisfaction and well-being for its citizens.” He outlined key aspects such as transparency, accountability, efficiency, and inclusivity.
In recognition of his contributions to local governance and student welfare, Ogunlewe was presented with an award of honour by the NANS Lagos Chapter during the event.
Distinguished guests, including Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, Vice-Chancellor of LASUSTEC, CP Fayoade Adegoke, and the Lagos State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, were present and participated in panel discussions.
Ogunlewe encouraged students as future leaders, stating, “We have a responsibility to nurture and support the development of these future leaders. Let us lead by example, demonstrating these leadership qualities in our own work.”
The summit provided a platform for meaningful discussions on building a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria through effective leadership and governance.
