Emir Isah Bawa
The emir Gobir in Sokoto State, Isah Bawa, has been executed by bandits after failing to pay ransom.
Mr Bawa was killed after reportedly undergoing torture and dehumanisation by the terrorists.
Recall that the Emir and his son were kidnapped in July at the Kwanar Maharba area while travelling from Sokoto to his domain, Sabon Birni.
In a disturbing video released by the terrorists on Tuesday, Mr Bawa appealed to the Sokoto State government to come to his rescue.
The monarch, who appeared in blood-soaked cloth said the deadline for the payment of the ransom requested by the terrorists elapsed on Wednesday.
Confirming the death in during an interview with BBC Hausa, a member of the traditional council, Shu’aibu Gwanda, said the monarch was killed on Tuesday evening.
Mr Gwanda, who holds the traditional title of Magajin Garin Gobir, said, “I received the news that the terrorists executed him yesterday (Tuesday) evening.
“Some people have gone to deliver the ransom to the bandits but unfortunately met the emir dead,” he said.
He said the emirate had yet to receive the corpse of the deceased.
