Sister of popular Nigerian rapper, Falz and daughter of renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), Folakemi Falana, has announced plans to take activist VeryDarkMan to court for alleged defamation.
The dispute arose after the activist shared an audio recording in which Bobrisky, a popular social media personality, claimed that Falana and his son, Falz, helped him settle a money laundering case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In the recording, Bobrisky alleged that he had spoken with Falz in prison and that the Falanas attempted to secure him a presidential pardon in exchange for ₦10 million. These claims were swiftly denied by both Femi Falana and Falz, who demanded a retraction from VeryDarkMan.
Femi Falana described the allegations as a “vicious and reckless” attempt to damage his reputation. He gave VeryDarkMan a 24-hour ultimatum to retract the claims or face legal action. Falz echoed his father’s demands, calling for a retraction.
However, VeryDarkMan, represented by Deji Adeyanju, denied making defamatory statements. He clarified that the release of the audio was intended to prompt an investigation into Bobrisky’s claims, not to tarnish the Falanas’ reputations.
Despite this clarification, VeryDarkMan did not issue an apology or retraction, maintaining that he had not defamed anyone.
In an Instagram post, Folakemi responded by reaffirming that neither her father nor Falz had ever met or communicated with Bobrisky regarding a presidential pardon.
She criticized Nigerians for believing what she called “ridiculous” accusations, including a baseless claim that Falz had an affair with Bobrisky.
Folakemi emphasized that the Falana family has a long history of pro bono legal work and that they have never been involved in corrupt dealings. “Seeing as you have refused to do the needful, @verydarkblackman, see you in court,” she concluded.
In his response, VeryDarkMan expressed confusion over why the Falana family chose to focus on him instead of addressing the corruption allegedly exposed in Bobrisky’s claims.
He argued that the focus should be on combating corruption and reiterated that he had not personally implicated the Falanas.
Despite the looming legal action, VeryDarkMan remained unbothered, stating that he is ready to face any consequences, including potential imprisonment, if it comes to that. He emphasized his commitment to exposing corruption and questioned why the Falanas had not addressed Bobrisky directly.
