The NATIONAL MOVEMENT FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE AND PARTICIPATORY DEMOCRACY has reacted to a baseless report stating that the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kolo Kyari is eyeing Guber ticket in Borno State in 2027.
The Group described the news report as
malicious and distractive.
It reiterated Kyari’s commitment to offering Qualitative service, accountability and transparency at the Nation’s Oil coy.
A Press statement made available to Citizen NewsNG reads:
Our attention has been drawn to a concocted narrative packaged as a news story by faceless individuals suggesting that the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kolo Kyari is eyeing Guber ticket in Borno State in 2027.
Although, the tone and structure of the story readily exposed the intent and character of the sponsors, it is pertinent to put the facts in the proper perspective so as to ensure that innocent Nigerians are not deceived with malicious and fabricated stories.
It is no longer news that some selfish and criminal elements are hell bent on destroying the image of the NNPCL boss, for reasons best known to them. Their sole grievance is that Mr. President, His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR graciously asked that Mele Kolo Kyari should continue in his capacity as the NNPCL boss.
This latest gimmick from the hurting minds, is an afterthought of the earlier strategies employed to malign the integrity of Kyari and distract him at this critical period when the country look on to the NNPCL to provide a soothing balm in the energy sector.
Moreover, Kyari’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and performance excellence have been attested to by all and sundry. And despite the unabated attack on him and his work, as well as the ceaseless call for his removal, he has continued to provide quality leadership for the NNPCL undeterred.
As a group that watches and monitors the activities of public officers and their approach to duties, we are well informed enough to know that Kyari is not eyeing any political move or nursing a political ambition that could distract him from delivering on his assigned duties.
If anything, his activities in the last few months and the rigorous measures, as well as countless negotiations and interventions are all geared towards ensuring that Nigeria fuel crisis does not degenerate into crippling the country and her economy, deserve to be commended.
As a group with tested integrity and at home with native and wide spread intelligence on issues, we want to assure the general public that the NNPCL boss is on the right track. We urge Nigerians to disregard these malicious and wicked news stories coming from these faceless individuals.
We are also constrained to warn those behind these news stories to desist forthwith as we will not hesitate to expose them to Nigerians. We are well aware of their countless efforts to exploit the NNPCL boss and milk him financially. His courageous stand and the fact that he has no skeleton in his cupboard has been a stumbling block for this group of blackmailers in power.
Nigerians are intelligent enough to know that political careers are not launched on the pages of Newspaper. It is also a public knowledge that no politician launches a political career in a clandestine manner as acceptability and popularity are key elements in politics. Hence, no knowledgeable person would toe the path of clandestine political journey.
It is also evident that the sponsor of these stories intended to create crisis between the NNPCL boss and the Vice President as well as other political figures in the North, the North East in particular and pointedly, with the motive to stir crisis of distrust among political stakeholders in Borno State.
All these attempts will continue to prove abortive as Nigerians have become wiser. These old tricks do not work any longer.
We are warning these elements to desist from this perfidious path and allow Kyari to continue to deliver on his assigned duties. Kyari’s hardwork has played a significant role in the NNPCL success and has contributed significantly to the growth of the energy sector in Nigeria.
The NNPCL is building gas infrastructure such as the OB-3 Gas Pipeline, AKK Gas Pipeline to deepen the use of gas in the domestic market, while it is also promoting the West African Gas Pipeline and the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline, as well as the Train 7 of the NLNG and number of Floating LNG Projects to deliver gas to the global market. These and many more are the efforts made by the NNPCL boss over the years.
