A 40-year-old man identified as Jibrin Adamu, has reportedly killed himself at Jigawar Maroka village in the Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The deceased hanged himself in a classroom at Miftahul Khairat Islamiyya and Primary School Gurdiba on Thursday, NAN reports.
The spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, who confirmed the incident on Friday, said that preliminary investigations revealed Adamu had struggled with mental health issues.
He said Adamu’s whereabouts were unknown for days before he later returned home.
“On September 19, 2024, at about 1830hrs, a tragic incident was reported at the Command headquarters that one Jibrin Adamu, aged 40 of Jigawar Maroka village, Kiyawa LGA has committed suicide by hanging himself in a classroom at Miftahul Khairat Islamiyya and Primary School Gurdiba.
“Following receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Kiyawa and his team moved to the scene immediately.
“On arrival, the team discovered the lifeless body of the man dangling from the ceiling of a classroom in an Islamic school in the area.
“Prior to his death, he left home to fetch water close to the scene of the incident,” said the police.
Adamu’s corpse was taken to Dutse General Hospital, where a medical doctor certified him dead.
His remains were subsequently released to his family for burial, according to the statement.
