…Reaffirms Commitment to Protein Security and Food Sustainability
Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Limited, a leading agribusiness company dedicated to enhancing food security and agricultural development, proudly joins the nation in commemorating Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day anniversary on October 1st. This significant occasion provides an opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s journey and the ongoing efforts to build a sustainable future for all citizens.
According to the Nigerian Protein Deficiency Report 2020, approximately 92.7 million Nigerians lack daily protein intake, with nearly 45% of the population being protein deficient. Nigeria’s score on the Global Food Security Index (GFSI) 2022 was only 42 out of 100, ranking it 107th out of 113 countries globally. This highlights the urgent need for improved access to high-quality protein essential for health and development.
Dr. Ayoola Oduntan, Group Managing Director of Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery, emphasized the pressing need for food security and the essential role of protein in our diets. “As we celebrate our independence, let us remember that true freedom includes access to adequate nutrition. At Amo Farm, we believe food security is the cornerstone of national development. Our mission is to ensure that every Nigerian has access to affordable, high-quality protein, paving the way for a healthier future for all.”
Through its subsidiary, natnudO Foods, Dr. Oduntan highlighted the company’s commitment to providing fresh eggs and blast-frozen chicken and beef products, renowned for their unmatched quality and nutritional benefits. “Each product is carefully processed and packaged according to the highest global health standards, ensuring that our offerings meet the growing demand for high-quality protein,” he noted.
Amo Farm recognizes the critical importance of protein nutrition, particularly for children under five in rural areas where access is limited. To address this challenge, the company introduced the Noiler bird, a revolutionary dual-purpose breed designed to improve access to protein. This initiative empowers rural households, especially women, by providing smallholder farmers with sustainable income through small-scale poultry farming that strengthens local food systems.
“The Noiler bird represents hope and opportunity for many rural families. By fostering sustainable poultry farming, we are not only improving nutrition but also enhancing the livelihoods of smallholder farmers,” remarked Dr. Oduntan.
In response to rising food costs in urban areas, Amo Farm recently launched the Noiler City Initiative, aimed at providing affordable access to fresh eggs and meat for city dwellers. This initiative ensures households have a reliable supply of eggs, with a minimum production of 900 eggs per cycle, while Noiler males, maturing in just 11 weeks, offer an efficient source of meat.
“The Noiler City Initiative is our proactive approach to combating urban food insecurity,” Dr. Oduntan stated. “By integrating sustainable poultry farming into urban spaces, we ensure that nutritious, locally-produced food is accessible to more people.”
Dr. Oduntan encouraged all Nigerians to celebrate Independence Day peacefully and with a sense of collective responsibility. “Our founding fathers fought for our independence, and now we must work together to build a prosperous, food-secure nation.”
