The US authorities have confirmed multiple deaths after a helicopter struck a radio tower in Houston on Sunday night.
According to a senior police officer, Chief J. Noe Diaz during a news conference, four people were on board, including a child.
He disclosed that there were multiple deaths when the private helicopter crashed on Sunday night.
The helicopter crash in Houston’s Second Ward neighborhood triggered a large fire that spread across three blocks, officials confirmed, NBC reports.
The incident occurred around 7:54 p.m. local time.
According to initial reports from the Houston Fire Department, the helicopter struck a radio tower before bursting into flames. Fortunately, businesses in the area were closed at the time, minimizing potential casualties.
Authorities have not disclosed the identities of those on board.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will conduct a thorough investigation into the crash.
The police added that business activities at the scene of the incident have been disrupted, mentioning that it is yet to be ascertained if anyone on the ground was hurt.
He described the helicopter as a Robinson R44 that had taken off from Ellington Field. Its destination was not immediately known.
The identities of the people on board have not been released.
