Blogger, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has revealed how he came into possession of a controversial phone recording involving Idris Okuneye, commonly known as Bobrisky.
The revelation was made on Monday during his appearance before a House of Representatives panel investigating bribery allegations concerning the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
The House Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions summoned the blogger, as well as officials from both the EFCC and the NCoS, to probe claims of corruption and bribery leveled against the two agencies by VeryDarkMan.
Initially, the blogger refused to address the committee in Bobrisky’s absence.
Bobrisky, who had been invited to the hearing, sent a lawyer instead.
Despite the blogger’s reluctance, lawmakers insisted that he provide testimony, even threatening to invoke legislative powers and order his immediate arrest if he did not comply.
After some hesitation, and upon advice from his lawyer, VeryDarkMan agreed to speak.
He explained the origin of the audio recording, claiming it was given to him by someone whom Bobrisky owed money.
The recording, which he partially submitted to the committee, had sparked public interest.
In a viral video that circulated earlier, VeryDarkMan had alleged that Bobrisky paid N15 million to the EFCC to drop money laundering charges against him linked to a naira-spraying incident in April.
Bobrisky was later sentenced to six months in prison following the incident.
The blogger further claimed that Bobrisky had paid additional sums to secure a favorable apartment in prison.
Bobrisky has denied all allegations, while both the EFCC and NCoS have launched internal investigations into the claims made by the blogger.
Additionally, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called on the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to conduct an independent inquiry into the matter.
