A fire outbreak at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Saturday morning led to the evacuation of 16 patients and the destruction of property worth millions of naira.
The fire, which reportedly began around 5am, in a paediatric consultant’s office, destroyed electronic gadgets, engines, books, office equipment, and the roof of the affected section.
It was gathered that the total value of the damaged property is estimated to run into millions of naira.
However, the hospital authorities promptly moved the affected patients to safety as firefighters worked to contain the inferno.
In a statement released by the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Ogunleye Omotayo, he said that the incident was described as under control.
“The fire incident raised no cause for alarm. Everyone is advised to go about their normal daily activities without fear,” the statement read.
Omotayo noted that no life was lost in the fire incident.
“Noting that no human damage was recorded in the incident, the management wishes to state that Investigation is still ongoing with regard to the cause of the incident.”
He stated that the hospital management wishes to clarify that the fire incident reported by some media outlets on Saturday morning was swiftly contained, causing no significant damage to the facility.
“At the moment, light has been restored, and work activities have resumed in the section where the fire incident took place.
“The management wishes to thank all staff, the state Fire Service, and all other well-wishers for their concerns and prompt response. The fire incident raised no cause for alarm. Everyone is advised to go about their normal daily activities without fear,” Omotayo added.
