Gov Francis Nwifuru
Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi has suspended the state commissioner for health, Moses Ekuma, and the commissioner for housing and urban development, Francis Ori, over alleged diversion of government properties.
A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Jude Okpor, said the decision to suspend the two officials was made during the State Executive Council meeting held in Abakaliki, the state capital, on Monday.
According to him, Mr Ekuma was handed over a three-month suspension while Mr Ori would remain suspended indefinitely.
Recall that the governor had on Saturday night, while visiting the Ministry of Health premises, reportedly found six officials caught in the act of diverting government materials.
He ordered their immediate arrest and promised full prosecution.
“Following cases of gross misconduct and dereliction of duties by some government officials and matters related thereto, the Chairman of Council directed the indefinite suspension of the Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development and three-month suspension of the Honourable Commissioner for Health, respectively,” the statement said.
