Popular Nigerian Nollywood actress and new mother, Dayo Amusa, known mostly for her roles in Yoruba local movies, shared her experiences and the trauma she suffered before the birth of her first child in her forties.
The 41-year-old actress welcomed her son, Oluwafirewamiri, born on 18 November 2024, in the USA.
On Tuesday, the actress took to her Instagram handle to express her gratitude to God for her baby and share her experience through a series of post on the challenges she faced on her journey to motherhood.
Amusan, revealed that back in 2015, she was diagnosed with uterine myomatosis (non cancerous tumors) which caused her exhausting menstrual pain and recurring complications. Due to the pain she suffered, some doctors she consulted advised her to have her womb removed completely to end the complications she suffered.
However, she resolved to keep her dream of someday becoming a mother alive and refused the recommendations. She narrated that she later went to the UK for tumor removal surgery after a series of failed alternative treatments.
According to the actress, in 2016, she got devastating news that one of her fallopian tubes was damaged and that made natural conception zero to impossible.
She persevered through it all until 2019, when she suffered a failed IVF attempt and a painful heartbreak from her then husband who suggested he tried his luck with another woman.
Amusan, stated that the personal setbacks she suffered coupled with the three miscarriages threw her into depression and withdrawal from family, friends, and even her career.
She said the tide turned in 2021, after her mother who stood as her pillar through the storms advised her to relocate and start over in the United States.
Looking back on the setbacks, the trauma and her eventual testimony, Amusan, expressed gratitude to God, her mother and the people who supported her during her trials.
Her testimony partly read, “MY TESTIMONY!!!
I never thought I would get to this moment but GOD knew. For as long as I can remember I knew I wanted to be a complete idea woman (a wife and mom),”
“Having had 3 miscarriages, in 2015, I was diagnosed with uterine myomatosis, and some doctors recommended removing my womb due to the complications and discomfort i experience every month during my menstrual cycle. I decided to fight and reject that option,”
“I was on medications, injections and treatments to stop the growth of tumors until my uncle’s wife advised me to come to the UK for treatment,”
“14th of Feb. 2015, I had the surgery to remove the tumor via TCRE Laparoscopy dye ovarian drilling procedure as I was really afraid of being open… In 2016 myself and my then partner decided to try again as we were so eager to welcome our 1st child together but later discovered one of my tubes was broken and it would be almost impossible to get pregnant naturally…,”
“Men as men, my then partner was involved with another woman unknown to me which produced a baby boy. After so many ups and downs, back and forth, na so the whole thing ended (Story for another day).”
