Nigeria has been hit by another national grid collapse, plunging several parts of the country into darkness on Wednesday—the second occurrence this year.
According to data from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org), the collapse happened at around 11:30 a.m. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yet to disclose the cause of the grid failure.
Confirming the development, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) stated that the disturbance led to power outages across its coverage areas. However, a gradual restoration of the power supply has commenced, with efforts underway to stabilize the grid.
A popular Nigerian National Grid account on X also reported the outage, describing it as a “GRID DISTURBANCE” that affected parts of the country.
When contacted, TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah said she was in transit and would respond later.
This latest collapse follows a similar incident on January 11, 2025, and continues a trend of grid instability, with 12 collapses recorded in 2024.
