The Suspect, Neetu Neetu
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a 42-year-old Indian woman, Ms. Neetu Neetu, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano, with 72 parcels of heroin concealed in wafer wraps and packaged as chocolates.
The consignment, classified as a Class A drug, weighed a total of 11 kilograms and was discovered in Neetu’s luggage after a thorough search.
NDLEA officers acted on credible intelligence during an inward clearance of Qatar Airways flight QR1431 from Bangkok, Thailand, via Vietnam and Doha, at the airport’s arrival hall on Friday, March 14, 2025.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), described Neetu’s arrest as evidence of a growing trend among drug trafficking networks to recruit white women and foreign nationals to smuggle illicit drugs into Nigeria. Marwa commended the vigilance of NDLEA operatives, who he said have consistently frustrated such attempts using advanced technological tools and proactive intelligence.
More Drug Arrests Across the Country
In a separate operation in Kano, NDLEA officers arrested a 45-year-old suspect, Michael Ogundele, on Thursday, March 20, with a 50-litre steel gas cylinder at Gadar Tamburawa, along the Zaria-Kano road. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives used welding tools to cut open the cylinder and discovered 50,000 pills of tramadol (225mg) concealed inside.
Additionally, on Wednesday, March 19, NDLEA operatives apprehended 40-year-old Sunday Ogar at Gunduwawa, Kano, with 27 kilograms of skunk (a potent strain of cannabis). On Tuesday, March 18, a female suspect, Khadijah Abdullahi, 40, was arrested at Lungun Bulala Yalwa with 424 bottles of codeine-based syrup.
