A 17-year-old boy, Buba Bappah, has been brutally killed in a reprisal following a violent clash between two groups of friends over a girl in Wuro Sale Village, Akko Local Government Area (LGA) of Gombe State.
According to the Gombe State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the incident stemmed from a prior altercation between two rival groups.
“On April 8, 2025, at about 8:00 PM, one Auwalu Isa, a 22-year-old from Gamawa Village, reported at the Akko Police Station that he had a misunderstanding with Basiru Yaya, Isaka Bappa Loddo, Gida Bappa Loddo, and Mohammed Bapa Loddo—all from Wuro Sale Village—over a lady,” DSP Abdullahi stated.
The initial confrontation allegedly led to Isa being stoned in the chest, causing severe internal injuries.
He was rushed to General Hospital Kumo, treated, and later discharged.
However, in a tragic turn of events, the dispute escalated into a deadly revenge attack.
“On April 9, at about 3:00 AM, one Bappa Jauro, a 55-year-old from Wuro Sale Village, reported that Auwalu Isa, alongside Ibrahim Gambo, Ali Zaki, and several others, mobilised and attacked his 17-year-old son, Buba Bappah, with sticks, hitting him on the head until he became unconscious,” Buhari explained.
Buhari explained that police swiftly responded, rushing the victim to General Hospital Kumo, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a medical doctor.
Three suspects—Auwalu Isa, Ibrahim Gambo, and Ali Zaki—have been arrested in connection with the murder, while others remain at large.
Buhari noted that the police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
In a separate incident in Kaltungo LGA, a 34-year-old man, Dauda Babawuro, was arrested for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in February, leaving her two months pregnant.
Meanwhile, medical tests at General Hospital Kaltungo confirmed the assault.
Similarly, in Billiri LGA, a 25-year-old man, Haske Abubakar, was arrested for the rape of a 6-year-old girl while she slept at her grandmother’s house.
Another disturbing case involved a 36-year-old man, Abubakar Ya’u, who was arrested for an unnatural offence after allegedly luring an 18-year-old boy into anal intercourse.
Additionally, Ibrahim Safiyanu, alias Media Bakura, was arrested for procuring and defiling a 17-year-old girl, while 19-year-old John Doctor was detained for defiling a 12-year-old in Kaltungo LGA.
In a separate operation, police arrested three suspects—Ahmadu Ibrahim (35), Tukur Musa (75), and Yaya Tukur (23)—for criminal conspiracy and theft after they allegedly stole a bull worth ₦700,000. The bull was recovered as an exhibit.
DSP Buhari Abdullahi reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling crime in Gombe.
“These arrests and breakthroughs are the result of sustained intelligence gathering, prompt response, and unwavering dedication by the Command’s officers,” he stated.
He urged the public to continue supporting the police with timely information to ensure safer communities.
