
Late Pa Victor Omololu Olunloyo
Former Governor of Oyo State, Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, has passed away, just days before his milestone 90th birthday. The revered mathematician, engineer, and statesman died in the early hours of Sunday, as confirmed in an official family statement issued by Barrister Oladapo Ogunwusi.
“With a heavy heart but gratitude to the Almighty, we announce the passing into glory of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of Oyo State, mathematician and engineer, and renowned technocrat, a few days before his 90th birthday,” the statement read.
Dr. Olunloyo was a towering figure in Nigeria’s public service, holding traditional titles such as Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife. His impact stretched across academia and governance—he served as the first Rector of both The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and Kwara State Polytechnic, leaving a lasting legacy in education.
Known for his intellect, dedication to service, and calm political demeanor, Dr. Olunloyo’s passing marks the end of an era for many who admired his contributions to Nigeria’s development.
“His long record of service to the nation and humanity is a source of pride to his family and associates, even as we come to grips with this devastating event,” the family added.
The family has requested privacy during this period of mourning and noted that plans are underway for a befitting burial ceremony.
