Controversial actor Ganiyu Kehinde Morufu, popularly known as Ijoba Lande, has issued a public apology to filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele, retracting his earlier accusation that she underpaid him for his work after spending an entire month at a movie location.
In a tearful video posted on social media on Friday, Lande clarified that his initial comments were misunderstood and taken out of context.
He initially stated that he was paid only N90,000 for his gateman role in her television series ’My Siblings And I’, but later revealed that he was actually paid N190,000. He explained that after expressing concerns about the initial payment, Akindele increased his daily pay.
Lande said, “Funke Akindele gave me N190,000 not N90,000. Please help me to beg aunty Funke. Aunty Funke, there was a mix up in my earlier video. The video was cut-and-join. I meant to say N190,000, not N90,000.”
Expressing regret for his earlier statement, he emphasized that he never intended to damage Akindele’s reputation. Lande claimed that his initial statement was doctored by “wicked bloggers” who cut and edited the audio to misrepresent his words.
“People posted where I made a mistake and not the full video where I corrected the mistake,
He pleaded with Akindele to forgive him, stating that he was not looking for a confrontation. He also asked her not to pursue any legal action, citing his financial inability to cope with the potential consequences.
“Please, forgive me. I don’t want to go to jail. I didn’t mean to defame to you,” he added.
Lande’s apology comes after he faced backlash for his initial comments, which many perceived as an attempt to tarnish Akindele’s reputation. With this apology, he seeks to mend his relationship with the filmmaker and move forward from the controversy.
