In a decisive move to strengthen emergency medical services, the Lagos State Government has unveiled ten new pre-fabricated ambulance points across key locations in the state. The initiative, driven by the Ministry of Health under the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), aims to slash response times and improve access to critical pre-hospital care.
According to a press statement signed by the Director, Public Affair, Tunbosun Ogunbanwo, it states that the commissioning ceremony was held at the newly established LASAMBUS Point in Agege and performed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Kemi Ogunyemi. Joining her were top officials, including the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, and representatives of the project contractor, Hamibra Integrated Nigeria Ltd.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Ogunyemi hailed the development as a milestone under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ agenda, noting that the new ambulance stations symbolize more than mere structures — they represent hope, faster care, and a promise of lifesaving service for Lagosians.
“These ambulance points aren’t just about vehicles and equipment; they’re about bringing healthcare closer to the people when every second counts,” she remarked.
The new LASAMBUS points are strategically located in Agege, Agbowa, Masha (Surulere), Badagry, Mile 2, Epe, Shomolu, Igando, Iba, and Ibeju-Lekki, ensuring swift emergency coverage in previously underserved communities.
Dr. Ogunyemi also commended the project’s contractor, Mr. Sulaiman Hammed, for what she described as “professional excellence beyond expectations,” and acknowledged the heartwarming gesture of Mr. Moshood Akintayo, a LASAMBUS service beneficiary, who voluntarily beautified the Agege ambulance station with his own resources.
With this latest investment, Lagos takes a bold step closer to building a responsive, accessible, and people-centered emergency healthcare system.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, she declared: “We are not just launching facilities today, we are reinforcing our promise to save lives, support frontline responders, and build a healthier, safer Lagos for all.”
In his welcome remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, shared his deep personal passion for emergency services and highlighted LASAMBUS as a cause he has championed throughout his tenure. “This is not just another ribbon-cutting ceremony,” he said. “It’s a signpost of progress, a culmination of years of planning and passionate work.”
Dr. Ogboye explained that the ten new points are part of a larger blueprint to upgrade and establish more strategically located points on the roads, ambulance bases in hospitals, forward-operating posts in local government areas, and trauma centres across Lagos. He cited already functional trauma centres in Epe and Tollgate, and ongoing works at MCC Eti-Osa and proposed new centres in other locations.
“We’re building more than structures; we’re building systems. From infrastructure to communication upgrades, every piece fits into a larger vision of seamless, responsive emergency medical service delivery,” Ogboye stated, adding that plans are underway to expand beyond these ten points.
He commended the LASAMBUS team for their dedication and resilience, noting that the addition of new points will naturally increase their workload. “Even as we celebrate today, we acknowledge the increased demands on our responders. Your sacrifice doesn’t go unnoticed,” he assured.
Dr. Ogboye also recognized the valuable contributions of the community, citing Mr. Moshood Akintayo’s gesture as “the highest form of civic partnership any government agency could ask for.” He urged others to emulate such community ownership of public assets.
The MD/CEO of Hamibra Integrated Nigeria Ltd, Mr. Sulaiman Hammed, presented a project brief, explaining the evolution of the prefabricated model from earlier versions that were vulnerable to environmental damage and unrest. “This new model is fortified, mobile, and designed to stand for over 50 years,” he declared proudly.
He revealed that the structure includes an ambulance personnel station equipped with executive furniture, anti-burglar German steel panels, and hybrid plasma cooling for staff comfort, adding that the ambulance hangar is reinforced with top-grade steel and built to accommodate modern ambulances securely and effectively.
According to Mr. Hammed, the modular structures are not only transferable but also cost-effective in the long term. He expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for supporting innovation and to the Special Adviser and Permanent Secretary for their leadership and trust in local contractors.
Similarly, representing LASAMBUS, Deputy Director of Nursing, Mrs. Rasheedat Saka, described the development as a landmark achievement that would dramatically enhance operational efficiency, staff welfare, and emergency response speed. “Come rain or shine, we are now better equipped and strategically positioned to respond swiftly,” she affirmed.
Mrs. Saka commended the Ministry of Health for not only improving infrastructure but also investing in the training and continuous capacity building of ambulance personnel, noting these efforts ensure LASAMBUS responders remain competent and agile in high-pressure situations.
She also reminded Lagosians of the state’s emergency toll-free numbers — 767 and 112 — encouraging residents to dial in during critical situations for immediate, professional assistance.
Adding a deeply human touch to the day’s proceedings was Mr. Moshood Akintayo, a grateful beneficiary whose life was saved by LASAMBUS earlier in the year. In an emotional testimonial, Akintayo recounted how the ambulance team promptly attended to his accident injuries and transported him to a hospital free of charge.
In heartfelt appreciation, he volunteered to paint and beautify the perimeter wall of the new LASAMBUS Point in Agege, a gesture that earned warm applause from guests and officials alike. “This is my way of thanking those who gave me a second shot at life,” he declared.
Today’s unveiling pushes the total number of newly established LASAMBUS points to 16, following six previously launched locations last year. With Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ agenda in full swing, the state plans to eventually establish ambulance points in every local government area, ensuring no Lagosian is left without timely emergency care.
This latest expansion reflects a bold, people-focused healthcare strategy — one that prioritizes lifesaving infrastructure, invests in frontline responders, and embraces community partnership to build a resilient public health system for Lagos.
