Sokoto distributes fingerlings, other equipment to fishermen
The Sokoto State government has distributed one million fingerlings and other fishing equipment to fishermen with a view to enhancing their trades activities in the State.
The Commissioner Ministry of Animal Health and Fisheries Development, Professor Abdulkadir Usman Junaidu, distributed the items to fish farmers in Yabo Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Professor Junaidu said corns and grinding machines were given to support the fishermen during the six months period they will be off the rivers to allow the fingerlings grow and multiply.
According to the Commissioner, the assistance was part of government campaign promises to boost socio-economic status of fishermen across the twenty three local government areas in the State.
He added that the gesture would soon reach fishermen in Kibiyari, Gatawa in Yabo and Sabon Birni local governments among others.
Professor Junaid therefore implored the beneficiaries to judiciously use the items to enhance their trades, adding that if they do so , they would improve their living standards and promote economic development in the State.
The Sole Administrator of Yabo local government, Mr. Bala Musa, commended the state government for this laudable effort and choosing his local government as one of the pilot place
The equipment, distrbuted to the beneficiaries include one million fingerlings, 50 canoes, 50 insulation boxes, corns, and many others.
