The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Asuquo Amba, on Thursday raised the alarm over the influx of operators of commercial motorcycles popularly known as okada riders in the state.
Amba said the okada operators could be criminals capable of “causing criminal act ranging from stealing, armed robbery, and kidnapping in no distant time.”
The police commissioner, in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, said, “These suspected persons in their multitude are in the state with motorcycles, pretending to be commercial motorcyclists popularly called okada riders.
Abutu stated that consequently, the CP had directed that all motorcycles across the state must be properly registered with the relevant authorities and have relevant documents of ownership.
The police boss cautioned okada riders from perpetrating criminal acts, noting that any crime would attract prosecution.
He implored all the people “to promptly report to the nearest police station or call the Police Control Room on 08062335577 whenever they see any person or group of persons suspected to be criminals around their environs.
“Landlords and caretakers are also advised to know the proper identities of their present and future tenants to avoid harbouring criminals.”
