The leadership of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Southwest Nigeria, under the National Vice Chairman in charge of the Geopolitical Zone, *Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan* has commended the Inspector General of Police, *IGP Mohammed Adamu* and the National Chairman PCRC, *Dr Faruk Maiyama* on their respective painstaking efforts towards the security and safety of the people of southwest geopolitical zone and Nigeria at large.
At the end of a crucial meeting attended by PCRC southwest officials in Abeokuta on *Tuesday 4th February 2019,* which featured an in depth *evaluation of some matters of community interest,* including security situations in the 6 southwestern states, *the PCRC opined as follows :*
1. *Appointment of AIGs*
That the appointment and posting of *AIG Ahmed Iliyasu Psc(+)* to zone 2 was as a great honor and blessing to the people and government of the zone, thanks to our *superlative Inspector General of Police and his team.*
As a result of wonderful displays of intelligence and capacity during his time as the Compol Ogun State, AIG Ahmed Iliyasu built *a very positive reputation of acceptability for himself with an overwhelming vote of confidence from both Lagos and Ogun States.*
His no nonsense approach to crime, coupled with many community based initiatives in partnership with PCRC earned and continues to earn him and his men an impressive crime bursting reputation till most recently in Ajah Lagos.
Also, the recent posting of new *AIG Bashir. D. Makama,* the immediate past Compol Ogun State to Zone 11, Osogbo came to us as another good news in the geopolitical zone.
To us, AIG Bashir. D. Makama is another version of AIG Ahmed Iliyasu.
Tactically gentle, *but dangerously endowed with strategic planning and implementation skills.*
We have *no doubt in his ability to marvelously excel* in zone 11.
2. *Commissioners of Police*
A careful view of the six(6) state commands in the southwest has revealed an impressive work from our Commissioners of Police.
These *set of hardworking senior officer works round the clock in synergy with other sister security agencies* and in partnership with the community, through the PCRC.
We therefore, *use this medium to request that the current campaign of calumny currently ongoing against the Compol Oyo State command be ignored totally.*
*CP Olukolu* remains one of the finest and community based senior Police officer the Nigeria Police must be proud of.
Though *PCRC remains apolitical* and have refrained from dabbling into political matters but we are at the same time, mindful that security is a collective responsibility of all.
3. *Amotekun*
We observed with satisfaction, the way and manner issues concerning operation Amotekun, an initiative of the 6 southwest governors through the DAWN commission was handled. *The position of the IGP and PCRC National Chairman is strongly commended* and we remain committed to many more action plans as an integral part of the Nigeria Police, to protect lives and properties of citizens under our IGP and his very efficient management team.
4. *Police Constabulary*
We applaud the decision of the Federal Government, through the Nigeria Police Force to recruit special constables. *To us, “special constables” is another name of PCRC.*
To this effect, *the PCRC will key into this project* and work hand in hand with all Police formations within the geopolitical zone for the realization of the set objectives.
As a way of bringing together, all security agencies for the purpose of having a common agenda for a peaceful environment in the geopolitical zone, *the PCRC southwest will in a short while, organize a seminar across the southwest states.* This seminar will include all public sectors plus partnership with state governments of the southwest.
Further details will be made available very soon.
