Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio has gone into self-quarantine for 14 days as a precautionary measure after one of his bodyguards tested positive for Covid-19.
In a televised address to the nation on Monday, the President assured Sierra Leoneans that neither he nor any member of his family had developed any coronavirus symptoms.
According to the presidency, “The bodyguard has been in isolation since he tested positive for the virus.”
Eight cases were confirmed On Monday, bringing the total tally to 43.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Six people were discharged after they completed treatment for the virus and tested negative.
In neighbouring Guinea, authorities recorded 43 new cases, bringing its total to 622.
Also, about 35 recoveries, including the country’s Minister of Public Works, Moustapha Naïte and the Minister of Security and Civil Protection, Albert Damantang Camara were all discharged.
Liberia also has about 99 confirmed cases of the virus.
