The Kwara State Government has inaugurated technical committees within the sixteen Local Government Areas of the State.
The committee is to combat the Covid-19 scourge in the state.
The state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hajia Aisha Ahman Pategi, led the Directors of Personnel Management DPM of all the Local Government Areas of the State in a meeting with the Kwara State Technical Committee on Covid-19.
The commissioner said the setting up of the committee at Local Government levels was in line with the vision of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to pioneer creative ideas and innovation by prioritizing the welfare of the citizens of the state.
According to her, the move will bring awareness and coordination to the grassroots through the ministry of local government directorate and commended the proactive steps of Governor Abdulrazaq since the onset of the pandemic.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Raji Razak, described the move as historic because Kwara State is localizing its campaign by bringing the efforts to the grassroots where the most vulnerable are found.
VON gathered that the committee will work based on a report template that will be structured into five work groups as follows:
Local Government Medical Advisory
Policy Enforcement, Ward and Protection
Public Education and Awareness/Media
Palliative/Grassroot Mobilization and Engagement
Economic and Agric Strategy for Identification/Sustainability of Economic Opportunities and Agricultural Sustainability for Food Production during and after the Covid-19 crisis
Each local committee will work within the Local Government Area and submit reports to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, who will in turn process them and send to the state technical committee.
Hajia Ahman Pategi hinted that the next step of the team would be setting up of technical committees at the ward level which will create structure and information flow from ward to Local Government Areas and then to the State and Federal level.
“With these steps, it’s obvious that the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq led administration is setting pace and making history”, she said.
