Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has declared that local government election will hold next year when the tenure of office of current local government chairmen ends.
This declaration was made on Monday 5th July 2020 by one of the Commissioners of the commission, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi during commision’s visit to Isolo LCDA secretariat.
In his opening remark, Dr. Omoseyindemi, who represented LASIEC Chairman, Justice Omotunde Phillips said the visit was a prelude towards preparation ahead of the council poll expected to hold next year.
To this end, he further revealed that the visit was to acquaint the local government administration with the time-table for the election.
According to him, council election will hold at least 150 days before the expiration of the tenure of the current administration and not later than 30 days after.
This revelation has therefore put to rest recent controversy surrounding the tenure of current council chairmen.

‘This will ensure we do not experience any distraction and all hands would be on deck to concentrate on good governance,’ he noted.
Hon Olaleye pledged his council’s support and assistance to the commission in its effort at conducting a free and fair council poll adding that his administration had always Dr. giving high premium to LASIEC because it was through the commission his administration came to power.
Though, the council had allocated three rooms to the commission at the Legislative Building within the council premises, the council boss, however, promised better accommodation for the commission.
