The Osun State Police Command on Wednesday dragged a 50-year-old man, Aina Taiwo before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo for alleged attempt to rape a school teacher.
The defendant was alleged on two counts bordering on attempted rape and assault.
The prosecutor, Mr Abiodun Fagboyinbo said the defendant committed the offence on 27 June 2020 at about 10:55 AM at Agunbelewo Area, Osogbo.
He said, “Taiwo attempted to commit rape and unlawfully assaulted Mark Kehinde F’ by giving her blow on her mouth to the extent she sustained an injury on her mouth and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 359 and 360 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. II Laws of Osun State Nigeria 2002.”
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
The Magistrate, Mr Opeyemi Badmus, gave a privileged to the complainant to answer some questions surrounding alleged offence. The complainant said, “I am a school teacher and a neighbour to the accused person”.
The defence counsel, Mr Nagite Okobe applied for bail for his client on the most liberal term.
The Magistrate, Mr Badmus admitted the accused person to bail with the sum of N500,000 with one surety who must be a level 7 civil servant officer in the state.
He adjourned the case to 9th of July 2020 for hearing.
